Rebecca’s Experience

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 9 years of experience working in the mental health field. I obtained both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. While I have experience working with individuals of all age ranges across several different settings, my current focus is working with women who have experienced perinatal trauma.

Perinatal trauma, commonly referred to as birth trauma, occurs when a birthing mom experiences emotional, physical or psychological distress before, during, or after giving birth. These experiences can include, but are not limited to: complications during pregnancy or delivery, the birthing experience not going as expected (such as unwanted or emergency interventions, times of fetal or maternal distress, etc.) as well as miscarriages or stillbirths. I also believe it is important to include the trauma of experiencing infertility- both the inability to get pregnant and the inability to carry a baby full term.

My Approach & Values

The primary modality I utilize when addressing perinatal trauma is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). However, there are times when I will utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or Exposure Response Prevention(ERP) techniques as well. I aim to establish a safe and welcoming environment where women feel comfortable addressing the pain and trauma they have experienced. It is truly a privilege to walk alongside other women, supporting them on their journey to healing.
